California State Summer School for the Arts

The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) offers a comprehensive Film program designed for creative individuals. The program, catering to 28 students annually, covers all facets of film production, including experimental and pre-cinema history. Participants engage with over fifty exemplary films and gain insights from visiting artists. The curriculum resembles a collegiate BFA course, providing intense learning experiences in various film aspects. The week is structured with classes in Narrative Filmmaking, Documentary Filmmaking, and Cinema Theory from Monday to Thursday, and production classes on Fridays and Saturdays. Additionally, evening screenings and a weekly Works-in-Progress showcase are part of the program.
